Social Distance
Non-verbal communication also encompasses distance from others and there are explicit social rules about how close we can get to others in different situations.
This social distance is also known as personal space ,comfort zone, or even “My Bubble”. The use of this space is called proxemics also a form of non-verbal communication.
Why the distance?
Regulating the distances between your self and other folks affords us with several advantages, including but not limited to:
• Safety: When people are further away, they can’t unexpectedly attack or harm us.
• Non-verbal and verbal Communication: When people are closer, it is easier to interact with them.
• Threat: The reverse can be used – you may deliberately threaten a person by invading their personal space or bubble.

I my self have missed some minuscule non-verbal cues from people that were interested (very interested) in me not only for social relationships but also for business opportunities. Unfortunately I just did not have the sense or the training to pick up on the non verbal cues. And to my dismay, I found out much later that I could have possibly missed out on relationships and ventures that would have made possible fortunes. Don’t get me wrong I am happy (extremely happy) with the way things have turned out for me and would not change a thing.
But ladies can you really afford to miss out on that guy Read the rest of this entry

Nonverbal communication can say what is not spoken in the form of body language and or facial expressions..
To be successful in business this form of nonverbal communication needs to be studied extensively. I am an avid fan of the television show The Mentalist. Actor Simon Baker plays the role of Patrick Jane. Patrick has mastered the Power of Non-Verbal Communication to the point that he can tell if some one is lying or with-holding information just by the use of Non-Verbal Communication.
